Learners perform a selected scene and at a critical point in the action or at the height of a dramatic moment, they are asked to ‘freeze’ creating a still image or tableaux. After a few moments, during which the audience
and actors can discuss what they see, or the (mise en scene). Actors are then asked to resume the action until the next freeze is called. Examples of scenes that lend themselves to this exercise might be a bank robbery, a court scene, volleyball or a blind date.
